Safeguarding Statement

The Griot Architecture Institute (GAI) and Ian Jazzi are committed to keeping every participant, audience member and young person safe.

Scope

Who this covers.

This statement applies to everyone who works, volunteers or facilitates for GAI programmes (including Blueprint Sessions), for BBG4K (BoredBoardGames4Kids) and for events run by Ian Jazzi. GAI operates under Unwind Limited, a registered company.

Blueprint Sessions is for adults aged 18–30. BBG4K and some community work involve children (under 18), who receive additional protections below.

Our commitments

What we do.

  • Treat the welfare of participants as the first consideration in every activity.
  • Do not tolerate abuse, exploitation, harassment, bullying or discrimination of any kind.
  • Never leave a facilitator alone and unobserved with a child. Sessions with children have at least two adults present, or take place in open view.
  • Brief every facilitator and volunteer on this statement before they work with participants, and ask them to confirm they have read it.
  • Choose venues that are safe and accessible, and agree the code of conduct with participants at the start of each programme.
  • Obtain a parent or guardian’s consent before children take part, and before any child is photographed or filmed.
  • Obtain consent before photographing or recording any participant, and respect a request to remove an image.
  • Keep participants’ personal information confidential, as described in the Privacy Notice.
Concerns

How to raise a concern.

Anyone can report a concern, whether it is about their own experience or someone else’s. Contact the safeguarding lead, Ian Jazzi, at Griotainstitute@gmail.com.

  • If someone is in immediate danger, contact the Ghana Police Service first.
  • Concerns are recorded, treated in confidence and taken seriously. Details are shared only with the people who need them to keep someone safe.
  • Where a child may be at risk of harm, we will report to the Department of Social Welfare or the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.
  • No one is penalised for raising a concern in good faith.
Applicable law

The framework we work within.

This statement follows the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560) and the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) of Ghana, and the safeguarding requirements of any partner institution we deliver with.

It is reviewed every year and whenever a programme changes. Last updated October 2026.
