All Aboard..? Welcome onboard the Train of Thoughts (TOT). You are encouraged to take a deep breath and think about this… ”IF I WAS PRESIDENT’. On today’s ride will be two TOTs Ghana ought to consider irrespective of who is president. We encourage you to share your TOTs as well, in the comment section at the end of the journey.
Have you noticed how football fans react while watching an intense game? They get so caught up in the moment and passionately share their opinions on how the players should move and shoot and in several instances, calling out the coach’s starting and substitution decisions. Haha. Fanatics are very interesting to observe at these times. It’s like live action passion. Just like an intense sports moment.
This feeling and “knowledge” doesn’t neccessrily stem from being experts at the game, possessing a coaching portfolio or relevant leverage for that matter. Unless they actually do (which can only be said about select few) . Mostly, it could be attributed to the amount of time one has invested in watching several games.
The point is… – IT’S EASIER SAID THAN DONE –
And this simple phrase can be applied to several things. About anything worthwhile for that matter because nothing good comes easy.
Why would you want to become president and to what end?
Motivation is a very interesting thing. Defining one’s true intentions and the underlying reasons they go about everything they do! Briefly we will identify two main reason’s anyone vie for the office of the presidency.
1. The noble reason – To effect the much needed change required for and to bring about to progress.
2. The political reason – For power, to advance the organisation and improve the status of party faithfuls.
Let’s look at power;
noun
verb (used with object)
History has proven power to be an intoxicative drug which has driven men to some of their craftiest in search of. Often resulting to despicable compromises. History also accounts of exceptional feats achieved by men in position of power.
History has a funny way of repeating herself.
Hence anyone with desire to occupy a public office of power inevitably comes under immense public scrutiny.
IF I WAS PRESIDENT…
Growing up it does indeed cross one’s mind what it will be like to be president. The reason is usually unique for every individual. It’s true that some feel a leadership call. Usually inspired by the circumstances and happenings in society/country at a particular point in time. Such people are rare and feel compelled because they were also prepared on their individual journeys.
The truth is, one has to genuinely love a country and possess a deep desire for what’s best for the land and her people, and more importantly ready, in order to be president in any way shape or form.
Ghana is a beautiful place with insane potential. This is something not unheard of. In fact, Ghana seems to have become an obvious trend of untapped and mismanaged potential sometimes at the detriment of the people and the beneficial of few.
Leadership is lifestyle. True leaders inadvertently find themselves in some sort of leadership role and are constantly admired by society because of their lives trajectory. Sometimes true leaders are oblivious to how much they genuinely inspire positive change in everyone they meet.
Ghana is currently uniquely placed on the world stage. And this is one of the turning points in the destiny of Ghana as a nation. What Ghana needs and whatever Ghana does at this point will be and is very crucial. And most importantly, it must be done for Mother Ghana and all her beautiful children and kin that occupy her lands.
The first tot is EDUCATION.
And the plan is to make the teaching profession one of the hardest to get into and certainly one of the most rewarding to be into.
Here’s why;
We need to start from somewhere. And we need to understand that unless we elevate whomever we can call the average Ghanaian to the level where he/she is required to be, we will constantly be complaining about Ghanaians this, Ghanaians that, when in actual fact we are talking about ourselves. Education, quality education for that matter is the basic building block of any super society or civilisation. Education can’t be something reserved for a few. These few don’t comprise and are definitely not Ghana.
The belief that Ghana requires a stringent educational reform and syllabi designed for the New Ghanaian and upcoming generation is as thoughtful as a father wanting the best education for their child. You certainly wouldn’t want an uneducated child and his uncouth offsprings at the family table. So I would want the best teachers and will pay for the best education because I require my children raised well and with equal opportunity life a responsible father would.
A well defined educational syllabi designed by Ghana, for Ghana and her elevation to her true position on the world stage. That type of thinking when dealing with the affairs of Ghanaians. Teachers are the true leaders of any nation. Elevating the value of the average Ghanaian mind equates to elevating the entire nation?
The second is tot, FOOD & AGRICULTURE
Essentially making sure we are producing a very good percentage (minimum 60%+) of all the foods we require and consume. And certainly not relying on import. Lot’s of countries have turned around their economies with Agriculture alone. The expatiation of this point ties in with the earlier tot on education. But you see where I’m going with this. We have everything to benefit with shifting international trade in our benefit via production and manufacture.
Two tots for you. And as you down them we have come to the end. Hope to see you again soon on another ride on the;
Great Train of Thought (TOT). To ride on this train with you, I agree with the two coaches you added to the train: Education and Agriculture (food security). Every serious leadership should be ready to back trace and solve issues at the fundamental level before expecting growth. I would like to be on this train. Thank you.
